The Story Behind Cookies with a Mission - How a Small Cookie Business is Making a Big Impact

Hello, thanks for stopping by. I'm Kristin, the founder and baker at Cookies with a Mission cottage bakery located in Wayne, NJ. In this post I'll be sharing the purpose behind Cookies with a Mission so you can see behind the apron to the heart of my bakery.

I love baking. When I'm in the kitchen creating a sweet treat to bless someone I know that I'm doing one of the things God created me to do. Like many people, I started baking with my mom as a child, but as an adult I discovered that in addition to baking, I really enjoy creating beautiful things. A few years ago I discovered the art of sugar cookie decorating with royal icing. If you're not familiar with this type of decorating it's a process that allows for maximum creativity and gives the decorator the ability to create edible art. The possibilities are limited only by the baker/decorator's creativity. At first, I just decorated cookies for myself or to share with family and friends, but after a few years God placed another idea on my heart.

You see, I know that God's desire is for everyone to hear the Gospel so that every person on the planet will know that God loves them and sent His son Jesus Christ to provide a way for them to be in relationship with Him, to live an abundant life here on earth, and to spend eternity with Him in heaven. In order for everyone to hear the Gospel some are called to go throughout the world as missionaries and others are called to send them. I am a sender. For many years I have donated at least 10% of my income to support the spread of the Gospel. A few years ago God placed a desire in my heart to be able to generate more income to give away. Out of that desire came the idea for Cookies with a Mission, a way to combine my passions for baking and decorating cookies with my passion for spreading the Gospel by starting a bakery and giving away a portion of what I earned to support Christian missions organizations. In 2024, Cookies with a Mission was born.

By creating custom decorated sugar cookies for all occasions and teaching cookie decorating classes where I share the joy of creating edible are with others, I've been able to support organizations such as Ability Tree, Cru, Restoration Family Farm, City Relief and Kingdom Builders. God has blessed my efforts and my little bakery has been slowly growing, enabling me to give more away.
